Conservation with real impact

For Zoo's and other wildlife organisations with members we want them to experience firsthand in the field the kind of conservation work that happens in Africa with dedicated professionals that will give everyone a unique perspective of this important work that we have chosen to have a lasting impact and not just a tourist show. This is all work that has a long term commitment and impact in these environments and for the species as a whole.

What We Do

With collectively over 50 years of experience guiding safaris in 17 African Countries, we understand safari logistics and the essence of adventure. So we are well placed to understand what works and designing, not just your ordinary safaris; these are bespoke, one-of-a-kind conservation support and participation safaris, that are tailored to your particular zoo group interest. This ranges from hands on conservation work where wild animals are captured for research or translocations, engaging with communities and in field conservation experts to embedding with biologists and tracking the animals they are studying in the landscapes they call home. This will be the core of the safari but we will incorporate incredible safari experiences in spectacular landscapes to dovetail with this and create a lifelong memory.

Your zoo will be recognized by the initiatives these adventures support and with the ability to have a zoo staff member join every trip it is a wonderful arena to build relationship with some of the donors and supporters of your zoo.

Here are some sample itineraries that are examples of what we would present to your group, branded of course with your zoo logo.

Experience the Extraordinary

Here are a few short storied about the experiences we took Zoo Members on and the impact their conservation safari had on both the local enviroment and communities in the area

We have been involved with a number of projects across Africa most notably in recent years in the Maputo Reserve of Mozambique and The Selati Reserve of South Africa where we have been involved with the collaring of elephants for one major reason and that is to try and manage and reduce the consequences of when these huge animals get into a conflict situation with communities of people living close to these reserves – putting tracking collars on to these huge animals is really not easy and involves vets darting them from the air by helicopters then the ground teams have to be there with the elephant as quickly as possible to try and manage its situation so it is comfortable and in a place that the teams can work on getting the collar put on or replaced. It is challenging work but incredible being right there and helping with all the tasks that happen like breathe monitoring, getting biopsies, pushing and pulling a body part to help with the collar placement, keeping the animal cool, and then when all done watching the animal stand up and walk off into the bush knowing that you may have fundamentally changed the outcome for the species and the communities living there is a great feeling. This is proper hands on work.

Be apart of a hands-on experience where you assist in darting, collaring and dehorning rhinos which is vital in the fight against poaching. Collars help monitor populations and movements, while dehorning reduces poaching risks by removing the primary target. Being able to get involved with the de-horning of Rhino in the private reserves of South Africa is a critical management tool that we have been involved with in numerous reserves and getting our guests onto the front line of this and helping the vets in the field with the whole process is an incredible experience. Being there and seeing it all happen first hand is a definitely something that can change your whole perspective of wildlife management.

Giraffe and Lion Short Stories

All of the family of giraffe species are in many areas of Africa under extreme threat which has been shown through extensive research by dedicated teams around Africa. We have been there to support these projects which can involve putting high tech tracking beacons onto these animals to assist with the very necessary research or to be part of relocations where giraffe from healthy populations can be relocated to new areas to try and repopulate or give the resident population a genetic and numbers boost to help make the story of giraffe in Africa a much more positive story for such an iconic animal. Watching a small group of giraffe leave the confines of the specially designed transport trucks and walk out into their new environment which you have been a part of making happen is incredible and a very emotional moment for anyone. Then going home and watching the satellite telemetry showing where that giraffe you helped move is walking about adds whole extra dimension to what you have done.

A High-Tech Epic for Giraffe Guardians

This is a species of animal that also runs into a lot of trouble with humanity on various levels which is why their numbers are really struggling in many wild areas of Africa. There are many layers to this and in some of the landscapes all of these factors intersect at the same time making it a real battle for survival. Collaring of these endangered animals in certain landscapes to help management understand their movements can be critical in helping them to survive and keep these ecosystems healthy with big apex predators like this a critical part of that. We have also been a part of moving prides of lions from reserves where they are threatened and move them to new landscapes in Africa that need new bloodstock or a numbers boost. Seeing these immense predators asleep at your feet while you help taking biopsies or fitting the tracking collars will have your adrenalin running very high especially if they move in any way while sedated.

What we believe

We understand that zoos are way more than just a collection of animals – we understand that the impact of a zoo goes far beyond the perimeter walls!
